After doing some research, I decided it is a bad idea ro recommend people turn on "less secure" and continue to require them to use 2FA. I'll put a note  to this effect in the docs.

See this Comm Center thread by Steve Reilly. Apparently there's a GMail option "Less Secure Apps" that can can allow Scheduler to send SMTP without 2-Step Auth. Document this.
