See this multi-topic Comm Center thread by Forrest Sims. The solving issue is toward the end. Pointing updates should first extract one of the Bayer planes, producing a typical monochrome FITS image, before attaching to PinPoint for solution. Don't forget that the resolution is cut in half (doubling the plate scale) on the single plane image. Since the pointing image is a throw-away, this should present no problems.
Possibly find a way to solve the final images as well? This might require additional logic within the PinPoint engine. See the linked PinPoint-1531 ticket. It has a couple of difficult FITS images from Sims.
